The Self Portrait at HOME By Ronan Mckenzie
The team and I at May Print have had the pleasure and the privilege of working alongside Ronan Mckenzie printing her new group show - The Self Portrait. It is currently showing at HOME, a multifunctional creative space in North London developed by Ronan and shall be running until the 27th of June 2021.
A collective show, curated by Ronan, featuring self portraits of 13 Black Women photographers; a much welcome perspective rarely explored.
“The Self Portrait is a celebration of Black Women photographers, demonstrating the nuance of not only the stories we tell, but the people behind the lens telling them. The show is an acknowledgement of the value of archiving the photographic history of Black photographers in the UK while simultaneously making visible and remembering the people who were at the forefront (or behind the scenes) of that history.” - Ronan Mckenzie, Curator.
The visual aesthetic walking into Home, is a warm immersion of rich earthy tones. Each area within the space has been well considered to compliment each photographers work. The choice of framing is individually curated to reflect the artist and in turn is beautifully crafted by the team at Facility Framing, East London.
In association with WePresents, the exhibition can be seen at HOME, Second Floor, 399 Hornsey Road, N19 4DX for full emersion and is also available online at www.homebyrm.space.
